Wine, bread and cheese, I’m good.

We serve almost all of our sandwiches on Manghi’s bread and we love it. Elaine Manghi (who has since retired but the family still runs the business wonderfully) used to be the most reassuring call every morning. She would tell me not to worry when things were slow, it was to be expected for the “x” amount of time, she always knew. Their bread is fresh, delicious, delivered daily and comes in a wide variety of flavors. Manghis’ has a unique delivery system: most of their bread is delivered by volunteers who commute or travel to and from Montpelier and nearby towns. In exchange for their service, their drivers are “paid” with free loaves of bread. The good news is they need more drivers, so if you want some free bread and you commute to or from Montpelier you should check it out here: Deliver the bread!

We put out a bunch of new cheeses for the tasting which are available in the store, try especially the Vermont Shepard, Verano, several times awarded the best sheep cheese in the United States. Also we have a beautiful new goat cheese spread made by us with Vt Butter and Cheese goat cheese, dried cranberries and a VT balsamic dressing. It is amazing.

As always our efforts to be creative and thrifty are yielding great results, look for an out of this world mac and cheese later this week and enjoy, because that same combination will never be back! Made with artisanal cheeses; smoked cheddar, cheddar curds, a bit of verano, a little smoked gouda and crispy, buttery, local bread crumbs.


For you Wild Salmon fans we have more King coming in, remember this season does end. This week after tomorrow looks good for grilling!
