The dinner that wasn’t

Hi Folks-

Okay, so usually I regale you with descriptions of the complicated and exotic dinners Sharon prepares for us on a regular basis. Nobody eats better than I do, I maintain with a smug, satisfied smile. And though it’s a lot of work for her, it’s fun work most of the time. And challenging. She likes to do things a little different, unique; she likes to leave her brand on everything new she creates.

And then there was this week. It started with a misguided pasta dish that was a pure salvage job and she was missing a few crucial ingredients. Needless to say, she did not enjoy it. Next it was the dinner all in white where she cooked pork loin chops, rice, and braised cabbage. The pork was dry and the presentation, something as important as flavor to Sharon, was tired and bland. Then last night it was Sharon’s turn to bring home something for dinner and she brought home a package of english muffins and a bottle of wine. First we had an english muffin with butter. Then for the next course we had an english muffin with butter and peanut butter, and finally we had an english muffin with a poached egg. That was our dinner, to our astonishment and amusement. Sometimes no matter how good a cook you are there’s just nothing for it. Oh well.

Tomorrow we have great fish coming in and a loaded prepared food case that will make you happy. Shad Roe we are trying to get but no luck so far. Maybe next week. The heavyweight on the list for fish is halibut, which goes fast so you should call ahead. We also have both Pemaquid and an oyster from the Cape, Duxburys, that’s excellent.

Fish arriving tomorrow:

  • Alaskan Cod, flash frozen at sea
  • east coast halibut
  • Sustainable Shetland Salmon
  • Dayboat Haddock
  • Swordfish
  • Icelandic Arctic Char
  • 16/20 Wild Gulf Shrimp
  • 10/20 Dry Scallops
  • Pemaquid oysters
  • Duxbury oysters
