Backyard Aromas

Hi Folks-

While we live on Main Street with the street quite close to the front door we have the most amazing back yard. In the summer with foliage it’s quite private, we have a fire pit, several grills and a cook stove, a large maple tree with a swing, a picnic table, room for lawn games and most of all our beloved porch.

We live on our back porch during the summer, it has seating for up to 8, dining table for four, a variety of lighting, a fan, really everything you need. Somehow where we are located makes us down wind of several good cooks. Often I’ll be out there reading, playing around with dinner ideas and suddenly the aroma of grilling chicken becomes incredibly compelling or maybe salmon or corn. I can literally smell what my neighbors are having for dinner and it always smells great and usually gets me moving on dinner.

Last weekend I made a hearty ham and bean soup with corn bread and made altogether too much. I saved a quart for us and gave two to the neighbors. Two nights later I was feeling terribly uninspired about dinner, sitting on the porch muttering about my distaste of leftovers, when this delicious smell wafted toward me. “Ooo what is that?!” I thought, “I could eat that…” Then I busted out laughing because I could indeed eat that, it was my ham and bean soup, proving the fact that everything always tastes better if somebody else does the work (or even just seems to:-)tyg

We have King Alaskan Salmon tomorrow so call early. We will be closing our doors at two o’clock this Sunday for our staff party held in our amazing back yard, and will be closed Monday the following day for a deep clean of the store.
