A quick recipe, the fish and a fun read

Hi Folks-

Well sunny is good, could be a bit warmer.  Lots of great fish coming in.

I bought a cook book last week, after reading about it somewhere, called “The Confession’s of a Serial Entertainer,” by Steven Stolman.  It is amusing and charming and the exact opposite of the last book I bought which was “Prune.” In Confessions, Steven extols the virtues of bisquick, campbell’s cream of whatever, cream cheese, bacon and gelatin among other things.  He is all about the party and inviting people over and putting out delicious food.

And he holds that his easy 1950’s era offerings always disappear first!  And he absolutely loathes being brought flowers as a hostess gift, so thoughtless to think that the host has time to drop everything and arrange your flowersJ.

Anyway I read the whole from cover to cover in about an hour and we did indeed try one of his recipes, old school but quite tasty.  Cheesy Poufs are one pound of Jones breakfast sausage, 2.5 cups shredded cheddar, 2 cups of bisquick and a half a cup of water all mixed together. Rolled into one inch balls and placed on a greased cookie sheet.  Cook at 400 for 20 minutes or until golden brown.  Serve warm, freeze left overs and re-warm at 350 for twenty minutes.  It is important to make sure the balls don’t get too big and as he points out they are great for absorbing alcohol at a cocktail party!
