So last week I explained that both Sharon and I were excited, anticipating the coming weekend. Sharon because she was catering a wedding and me because I was going with much of my family to Saratoga Raceway for the Sunday and Monday races. I also explained that in order for Sharon to source the very best flank steak for the reception that she ended up buying 27 pounds more steak than she needed for her event, and that we would be selling the extra steak at the store the next day.
So, here’s how the weekend worked out. First, on Friday morning a succession of people who had read the post came in to buy flank steak. We ended up selling all but one piece of the steak, which Sharon brought home.
Then, the catering for the wedding was grand. the people couldn’t have been more happy with the food and its presentation. Score big for Sharon.
Then, Katy, Alec, Chelsea and Sophia and I went to the races. Katy and Alec had been many times before and the fine points of handicapping came back to them pretty quickly, while for Chelsea it was all new and she took to the “science” of handicapping like a pro who’d been a winner in a past life. Sophia didn’t get bogged down with a lot of facts from the Racing Form. She simply bet on the horses with names she liked, and she bet on every race. In truth, none of the adults were overall winners, though we each made several trips back to the window with winning tickets. Sophia, wouldn’t you know it, was the only one of us who won overall, and she came out $32 ahead. We all had just a super time.
We have a fantastic deal tomorrow on swordfish, with Grade A north Atlantic fish selling for $13.95/lb. We also have Alaskan King Salmon, Arctic Char, littleneck clams and Pemaquid oysters. Don’t forget that we offer wild Gulf Shrimp as well, for an appetizer or for grilling. The weather this weekend is supposed to be nice, for an outdoor Labor Day.
