The Weather

Hi Folks-

So I’ve worked the cash register each of the last two days so I’ve talked to almost everyone who has come into the store. When you work the register you talk to everyone who gives you even the slightest opening, or at least you do when you’re feeling half way decent and alive. It’s one thing when the person who comes up to the register is a friend, or someone you have a history of such encounters with so that you know something of the person’s interests. Then you have a context for a brief conversation based on something that interests you.

Then there are the encounters with new people, or people who haven’t yet opened up at all, and in these encounters you are left to talk about general reality, like how you’re feeling or of course, how’s the weather. Well, last week when we had those two gorgeous classically “spring” days, temp in the sixties, bright sun, just a little breeze – on those days everyone was happy, holding hands, making jokes, talking about the weather, and there were no complaints. Not one. Every comment about the weather was positive. While yesterday we had the same beautiful weather as those days last week, though it was perhaps ten degrees warmer, the complains about the weather came back. For some, not many but some few people, it was just too damn hot and though they seemed to be somewhat embarrassed saying it out loud after the endless winter we all endured, they couldn’t help but complain about the weather.

Headline news in the fish department is that we have shad roe coming in tomorrow. Six pairs were all I could get so come in early to get yours. We also will have fresh halibut filets.

Fish arriving tomorrow:

  • Sustainable Shetland Salmon
  • Dayboat Haddock
  • Swordfish
  • Icelandic Arctic Char

See you at the Store!
