Okay, so interesting day. We, Sharon and I, stayed up way too late last night having way too much fun and it was Sharon’s turn to open the store. Too early. I was scheduled to come in at ten and I get a text from Sharon about nine saying to come in at eleven and she only needed me until one. Big present. I didn’t know she loved me that much!
Anyway, and I don’t know if I’ve told this story before, but somehow her gesture reminded me of our first date, twenty years ago. We had met at Charlie O’s, yes, Charlie O’s, and our romance started pretty quickly after that. I was smitten, and Sharon was Sharon. I could tell she liked me, but what did I know? Shortly after we met I bravely asked her out. Me of little experience but a fearless heart. I really liked her.
So the plan was to meet at Tanglewoods in Waterbury, and have dinner. Simple. I was as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs. I worked in Waitsfield at the time and as I drove to Waterbury I thought I needed something to bring to her. I stopped at a florist and was waited on by two older women. I explained the situation and they suggested me getting Sharon a wrist corsage. I kid you not. Not being of sound mind I went with their suggestion. Can you imagine? It was like going to my first prom.
So I proceeded to the restaurant, feeling uneasy, and I pulled into the parking lot, noticing that Sharon’s volvo station wagon was parked there already. I almost hyperventilated. As I walked across the lot I had the sudden epiphany that the wrist corsage was ridiculous and I tossed it into the restaurant’s dumpster. It turned out to be a good move. There was Sharon waiting at a table. She was wearing a leather jacket and jeans and a black turtleneck, looking young and terribly cool, not a wrist corsage kind of girl at all. Disaster averted, she didn’t know a thing until she reads this post but now she’s stuck with me. Ha!
The wine tasting last weekend was awesome, everyone who went was happy with it all. Sharon’s hospitality and great food and wine. What more could you want.
The fish tomorrow is awesome. We have dayboat sole that’s under ten dollars a pound and grade 1 swordfish for under $15. Also King Salmon, Halibut and Red Snapper. I love the fish deals the summer brings.
