Love my job

Hi Folks-

A truly Vermont experience, snuggling up with your sunburn under your down comforter. That would be the change between Saturday and Sunday. I love it, I would die of boredom in San Diego (in my mind the land of perfect weather).

I read a ton about food, as you have probably noticed and while I get that some topics are incredibly obvious (healthy recipes in January, asparagus recipes in the spring, grilling starting on Memorial day, etc) I am also pretty impressed with the serendipitous appearance of shakshuka recipes or how many food writers are riffing on lentils and chickpeas at the same time.  Sometimes I don’t check in with the collective food consciousness and will still find that I and three other food loving friends all cooked with the same cut of meat over the weekend (no, we don’t shop at the same places).

I also think about food from a couple of other perspectives. The market makes one huge delicious pot of soup each month for the soup kitchen, we try to get food we can no longer sell to either the food bank or the food pantry (depending on amount). We work with pretty much any local person who is growing or creating food and trying to market it. If its good we will give it a shot even though the (insert pricing, labeling, packaging, delivery) isn’t quite there yet.

Just another way to say I love my job. Working on getting Lake Champlain fish, you all should check out the “Teen Takeover” of Kismet on Wednesday and of course the Arts riot food truck behind the new parklet is fun too!
