Usually Peter is the Thursday night writer but we are swapping, so he’s cooking, I’m writing and he’ll be entertaining you Monday. Mostly because…
It’s that time again. It is the annual Uncommon Market Holiday wine tasting! An incredible opportunity to taste wine before you buy, just in time for the holidays. In Montpelier on Saturday, November 5th from 3pm to 7pm. Tickets are $25.00 per person and will be available at the store on Monday October 10th. Location provided on the ticket.
There are 30 different wines to taste, for every budget and every palate. The Uncommon Market provides a delicious spread of artisan cheeses and meats, house made gravlox, house made dips and more. The wine professionals are just that and eager to share their knowledge. It is one of the most educational wine tastings I’ve attended.
Any 12 or more bottles ordered that day will receive a 12% discount and all wines will be available for pick up by November 11. This is a great way to stock up for the holidays, pick out a few nice gift bottles and just generally save on wine. Space is limited so please do sign up early.
Peter has great fish coming in tomorrow, one of which is fresh squid, (tubes and tents, meaning the whole body and the tentacles). You can slice it up to make calamari or you can do what I did last time and make this very tasty stuffed squid recipe. Stuffed Calamari I actually debated about even telling you about the squid because I want to make this again but Peter assures me there is enough for you all too. I will admit it’s a bit of a project, not super tricky but definitely a couple of steps, Saturday cooking for me. We really liked it.
We also will have red snapper and if you want one last glorious grill, tomorrow night is the night, do it! Or if that seems too tricky just rock those mussels, a handful of chopped garlic in a tablespoon each of olive oil and butter, add a bottle of inexpensive white wine, steam til open and devour with a little butter on the side if you want. Try a little of your favorite spice rub in your steaming liquid or even in the butter. 🙂
Fish arriving tomorrow:
- Alaskan Cod, flash frozen at sea
- Red Snapper
- Dayboat yellow tail sole
- Sustainable Shetland Salmon
- Dayboat Haddock
- Fresh Squid
- Icelandic Arctic Char
- PEI Mussels
- 16/20 Wild Gulf Shrimp
- 10/20 Dry Scallops
- Wellfleet oysters, MA
