En Vrac and Valentines Day

Hi Folks-

What exactly is “En Vrac?” As a matter of fact, the term “en vrac” means bring your own bottle. In many French villages locals will bring their bottles or jugs to a nearby winery and fill them up with an easy drinking table wine to use as their house wine. I actually noticed this in Austria too, pretty cool to see people driving up to what were, to my eye, gas pumps and filling up very large wine bottles covered in a kind of rattan. So this is family wine or everyday wine and we are now carrying a lovely French example called …Vrac. at $10.49 it’s a steal and quite tasty. I’ve brought in a bunch so grab a bottle and try it.

I also want to point out that Valentines Day is next Sunday. Now Peter and I have an ongoing romance and we tend not to plan too far ahead for this sort of thing, so I suspect you are all a bit like us. I have noticed however that people do enjoy splurging a little on a nice bit of fish for Valentines Day, whether it be shrimp or scallops, halibut or salmon, what have you. I am heartily recommending ordering by Thursday if you want a special fish meal on Sunday. Sundays and Monday are traditionally lower fish days for us and you simply can’t count on finding exactly what you want on Sunday morning. Unless of course you order something and we will keep it in perfect form for you throughout the weekend.

Stephanie has been making ginger garlic salmon cakes that are ready for you to take home and cook and they have been selling quite well so she has made a few more and they will be available tomorrow as well as the following fish.
